22nd august 2007Day a hundred and thirty one.
joe called me out of maths lecture halfway through while everyone else was set work to do. i did my share of work already the weekend then. he said he needed to talk to me regarding something important. i never usually get called out, either because i wasnt an international student so there wasnt much of my business around in college matters. muru looked at me from behind. everyone else look also. it was surprising to even hear my name called out other than when he marks the roll before classes commence.
i took a step out of the room with him with the door closed behind us. i couldnt say for sure it there were people inside looking out wondering what was the matter about concerning myself. i fumbled with my shoes. he held a paper with two lines highlighted in yellow. one was my name the other was another girl. it appeared to be a marks sheet with personal details attached in the columns.
he broke into a smile. you could see his grin envelop by the sides of his mouth. he smiled on and told me a great news.
'you have be given an opportunity for a scholarship in university'
'i what?'
(okay i know it sounded just crude. but i was shocked literally)
'well, a scholarship that's what i said.'
( he was trying to press his point that it was a great deal of that matter)
'oh, for what?'
'well they are offering scholarships to the best few pupils and youre one of them'
'so over here, well did you indicate that you wanted to do medicine?'
'well no.'
'oh tell you what, go and look for tess gent in the student's services.'
'she'll guide you along'
it was break. i went to look for anne yates instead for something else. but when she saw me, she seemed shocked as she walked past me. somehow, she seemingly knew who i was and wanted to see me also.
she gave me the whole story on my scholarship. i was taken for a ride. it seemed that the college has picked out the top 15 perfoming students in the semester one exams and had them placed on a list. universities offering scholarships would inquire from the college itself on top students. that's why she needed to know what courses i wanted to major in. i told her business and commerce and my possible insitutions of study were curtin university and university of western australia ( uwa). she said by the end of the year, after the TEE results are out./ if i remain where i am today, i might gain a high chance of a definate place in that university of my choice with the scholarship attached to it.
lunch hour was weird. just weird. there was only the five of us as compared to the huge group of seven. well okay fine, we're just missing out two more people but hey. those two loudmouths are seriously missed by us. it didnt matter much though since we had our own fun. it was hilarious. chris just exposed to everyone else at the table that he drank tongka ali before by accident. it seemed funny since he said he took the can drink out of the fridge and went to pay for it. it was interesting then since i pondered as to why the shopkeeper didnt question the young chap to why he EVEN NEEDED that drink for.
we got curious and started to bombard poor chris with everything to do with his after effects of drinking that tonic drink. ( i call it tonic since it does help somewhere) kind of a revigorating drink that makes you float. questions from the gender of his tuition teacher in his class after he took his drink and what he did under the table or in his seat. lets just say after he let the cat of of the bag, everyone knows he aint a goody good guy anymore. im not surprised.
